Random Cuteness (part 21)

Okay... so if you haven't noticed by now, there've been some changes around here since the last Random Cuteness post. Ming & Bing are still around and are as cute as ever... and while Allen Jess is getting bigger & older, he is still super cute. But the cuteness level around here completely went through the roof when Jack was born! And since then, there's been just an absolute ton of cuteness going on... so much so that there's just no way I could fit all of the past three/four months into one post! So keep an eye out for more random cuteness... but until then, enjoy the pics... especially the ones of this happy little fella.

"You eye-ballin' me, Daddy?!?"

Jack's head was (is) big... but just not quite big enough for Wela's custom beanie she made him to fit nice and snug. But as you can see, I don't think he seemed to mind all that much... just as long as it was soft and warm.

And if it wasn't his beanie that didn't fit,

it was his outfits!

Beanie problem solved! Wela knitted another one...

this time it fit like a glove.

I know kids are like a sponge... but I didn't think Jack would try whistling so soon after hearing me do it!

We never said our first was the brightest kid on the block...

but he sure does make us laugh - our little Space Cadet!

Daddy loved taking care of his newborn son...

especially when he wasn't awake!

It's a bird...

It's a plane...

No, it's... a not-so-happy Super Jack!!!

It took some time for Allen to warm up to Jack,

but it wasn't long before he was being a sweet big brother!  

Apparently Jack wasn't messing around when he said

he was the new 'man-of-the-house' and demanded the remote!

With a new baby in the house...

it was quite apparent that Allen felt a little left out!

"Hmmm... I wonder what's gonna be for breakfast?"

Can't get enough of that big ole Bubba smile!

Sometimes in trying to please Allen...

poor little Jack has to take a back seat.

Such a good Momma... letting Jack fall asleep first,

before she immediately followed suit!

Like they say... if he wasn't eating or crying,

then he was definitely sleeping.

Jack's first bath... and boy did he need it!

Allen was so sweet...

and enjoyed helping Momma clean his brother.

Still so hard to believe Allen was once the size of Jack

in the not so distant past. My how time flies!

A good breakfast Obi Wan must eat.

"Now if I could just remember

where Daddy put all those Newcastles!?!"

Allen sees Bing go inside boxes all the time...

so he finally decided to see what all the fuss was about!

The new Apple Laptop sure is cute...

but goes into sleep mode way too easily!

Speaking of sleep...

these two definitely needed some!

When you have way too much to do and no time to do it in,

you learn to adapt, improvise, and overcome!

No matter how hard Jack pleaded or how nice he asked,

Allen refused to let him help with his puzzle.

So I think the consensus is that Allen looks like an Etheridge...

and Jack looks like a Valenzuela! What do you think???

With his big chunky legs, Jack just might be the opposite of Allen...

80 Years

After spending way too much time in a car trying to get to L.A. (or Murrieta), not to mention all the gas for the car, as well as all the money spent on nice dinners out, and then all the presents that you always had such a difficult time buying... we effectively decided that celebrating and spending money on each other's birthday was much more of a headache and too expensive than it was worth! It was a deal we had with the girls up in L.A., and even though it was sad that it meant we weren't going to see each other as often, it made economical sense and we were all in agreement. But that little deal of ours certainly didn't include special occasions!!!

When we realized that Nani was going to be turning 80-years-old this March, all deals were off and we threw all the economical sense straight out the window! Jei baked & decorated a beautiful cake, we made our way over to Long Beach on a Saturday afternoon, and met everybody for dinner on the Queen Mary.

With a gorgeous day, great weather, a beautiful view & skyline, and on top of all that - being on a really cool ship... Allen was super excited!

Of course there was no way I had the heart to tell him that the ship was actually permanently docked there and that a cruise into the open seas was completely out of the question!

So while I was in charge of making sure Allen didn't go overboard... Jei was in charge of making sure Jack was a happy little camper!

And I think we both did an excellent job...

for we all stayed dry, and there was no sign of any crying.

The whole happy gang together again. Although I think we all would've been a lot happier if we were all celebrating on a REAL cruise ship!!!

It may have been the Birthday Girl's monumental day...

but it was Jack who seemed to get all the attention.

While everyone else was eager to head up to the restaurant and eat, Allen was the only one who wanted to stay on the deck and play. Needless to say, Allen's desire to play was overruled by everyone else's hunger... so he had to be carried in!

The celebration was finally moved into the restaurant...

where Nani's birthday cake was the centerpiece!

Nani insisted that if Jack was going to join us at the dinner table, he had to be dressed up  and looking his best like the rest of us!  

Passing the time between ordering and getting our food was easy and lots of fun... for there was a cute little chubby baby to pass around and cuddle with.

Dinner was fabulous... which, lucky for Nani, came with a complementary slice of chocolate cake... which was generously passed around and shared.

Nani may have gotten her very own slice of chocolate cake, on top of her two tiered custom birthday cake that Jei made her... but Allen made out in the dessert department just as well (thanks to Joanne!).

Those marshmallow treats sure were delicious!

And after finishing off his marshmallow treat-on-a-stick,

Allen apparently dug into some of Nani's chocolate cake too!

The pretty cake, the long drive, and the expensive elegant dinner... all of which were absolutely worth all the hard work, insane traffic, and the money, to be with Nani and the family to celebrate the 80th year of such a wonderful life to an amazing woman. And despite being on a permanently docked cruise ship, I don't think we could have had a better time. Thank you Nani for letting us help you celebrate such a magnificent occasion... and hope you enjoyed your big birthday as much as we did.  We love you!
