With just about all the immediate family getting the chance to see, play and be with Allen Jess in the short four months of his existence... there was clearly one last family that had yet to experience our sweet baby boy. And although it took us almost five months to see them, the cliche, 'Good things come to those who wait', was certainly the case when the three of us packed up, got on a plane, and flew down to Mexico City to visit Aunt Michele, Uncle Jorge, and Cousins William, Sofia, Leonardo, and Catalina for a full week!
How exciting! We finally get to see Michele and the kids... and Jorge and his restaurant! Not only that, but we also get to take Allen Jess on his first plane ride- for better or for worse. Exciting as it was, waking up mega early to miss traffic on the hour and a half drive up to Nani's house in L.A. was nothing to be excited about. But once we got to Nani's, we knew it wouldn't be long before we were on our way to South of the Border!
Why we were flying Alaska Airlines to go to Mexico was a mystery to us all, but nevertheless, we got dropped off at LAX, got a sleeping Allen Jess out, along with all our luggage ready to say goodbye to the warm Southern Californian sun.Once Allen Jess finally woke up, he found himself in an airplane terminal for the first time... but then he looked around and saw his 'Buela' who was accompanying us to Mexico and that of course made him really happy!
Momma Soch fed Allen a little pre-flight snack... for you know what they say: a fed baby is a happy baby... and we definitely wanted a happy baby!
Not sure if he knew what was going on or what he was about to do... but he certainly was a happy, cool, and calm customer while we waited to board our plane!
Which of course made his 'Buela' and his Mommy very proud.
And then after almost 2 hours of waiting... it was finally time for us to board! And as we walked down the gangway, us grownups were oh-so-giddy about getting to board the plane first! (It's the little things in life, right!?)
We pushed the stroller as far as they would let us and then waved goodbye to Allen as we prepared to board the plane. The airline assured us he would be fine in checked baggage!
Hah! Yeah right!!!

Momma Soch and Jei were both super excited...
I was just worried Allen would pitch a fit the entire time...
And Allen Jess seemed like he'd done this a thousand times!
"Okay... so somebody's gonna have to turn that wind turbine off up there!"
"Oh look... Sky Mall!"
'Buela' introduces the highly coveted 'Window Seat' to Allen Jess!
Nothing like an in-flight martini to take the edge off during your first plane ride!
"Whoa! That sure does look good! Does it come in a puree?"
Much to our delight... Allen Jess was amazingly well behaved! Jei & I like to think that our incredible parenting skills are to thank.
Actually, he was hardly ever awake for most of the flight! The rest of the time he took a load off, unbuttoned his pants to cool off some, and napped most of the way there! We definitely weren't flying First Class... but we sure did want to fly whatever 'Class' Allen Jess was flying!
But we sure were proud of the little guy! He was well behaved, didn't fuss, and thoroughly enjoyed his first ever plane ride.
"Hey... I can see our house from here!"
The flight wasn't too long... but considering how anxious and excited we all were to get on the ground and see everyone, we couldn't land and deplane fast enough!
Next Stop: Mexico City (i.e. "Texcoco Beach")
